🌎 In this week’s episode of ‘As the AI World Turns,’ we find Sam Altman saying “Hello, Board!” and, effectively, something else to Musk and detractors.
On Friday, OpenAI announced that the board reinstalled Altman and appointed three new women members 👏👏👏 - recall that Friday was International Women’s Day (contrived or happy accident?).
They are Nicole Seligman, a former president of Sony Entertainment; and Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart; and Sue Desmond-Hellmann, a former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (whose appointment has raised questions about a Microsoft tie, but I think that’s a stretch).
The investigation into Altman’s firing found the board was within its rights to do so but likely moved too fast (duh…), and that Sam apparently didn’t do anything requiring his ouster.

So much drama this week to choose from for this comic, but I felt the amount of power this now gives Altman and the flip-off it sends to Musk in the process warranted the attention.
I had a different comic partly developed before the news broke which I suspect I’ll be able to use again later…

A little more diversity in the board mix 🌈 would be good to see with members to come, but glad it’s moving in the right direction.

What did you think about the announcement??
Loved it, hated it, surprised, figured this would happen, worried about implications? Do tell…
